Warriors ask National Basketball Association to investigate Cavs' signing, release of Patrick McCaw

Report: Warriors ask NBA to investigate Cavs' signing, release of Patrick McCaw

Report: Cavs Could Lose 1st-Round Draft Pick for Signing and Waiving Patrick McCaw

The Raptors are committing much less money than that, securing McCaw to a one-year veteran's league-minimum deal worth $786,000.

McCaw, who won two National Basketball Association titles as a swingman for the Warriors, plans to sign a veteran's minimum contract with the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Warriors didn't match the offer, making McCaw a member of the Cavs.

The Raptors aren't involved in the investigation.

"I've got enough to worry about, " Kerr said, before adding, "The whole thing was kind of unusual".

McCaw averaged 4.0 points in 128 regular-season appearances with the Warriors in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Then, just before his deal would have become guaranteed, the Cavaliers abruptly cut him.

Patrick McCaw Cavs

Two days after being released by the Cavs, former Warriors guard Patrick McCaw cleared waivers at 2 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

Suspicions immediately arose around Cleveland's motivation behind signing a player from the team that beat them in three of four NBA Finals, then releasing him nearly immediately.

If the Cavs and McCaw arranged to waive McCaw before the contract was official, it would be a violation of league rules and could result in some dire consequences.Namely, the Cavs could be fined and be lose their first-round pick.

McCaw played only three games with the Cavaliers and was waived before his contract would have been guaranteed for the remainder of this season.

The New York Times reported that the National Basketball Association is investigating the Cavaliers for possible salary-cap circumvention, a probe that Golden State encouraged the league to undertake on the Warriors' behalf.

Pat McCaw's unusual saga has come to an end. He also will, once again, be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2019.
