The GoFundMe campaign for Trump's border wall is refunding

Crowd funding platform GoFundMe will refund $20 million to people who donated to build a wall on the southern border.

"When I created this fundraiser, I said if we did not reach our goal we will refund donors".

Whithorne noted that organizers had also promised that "100% of your donations will go to the Trump Wall. If for ANY reason we don't reach our goal we will refund your donation", Bobby Whithorne, a spokesman for GoFundMe, said in a statement Friday.

"That did not happen". You will receive your refund a few weeks after the 90 days expires and GoFundMe will notify you once your refund has processed.

In a Friday update on the GoFundMe campaign page, Kolfage wrote that his team spent "countless hours over the holidays reviewing all issues pertaining to the construction of a southern border wall". Donors who do not act will have their money refunded.

The campaign, GoFundMe said, was created to be all or nothing.

US President Donald Trump presents a "typical standard wall design" as he participates in a roundtable discussion on border security on 11/1/19.

Business Insider reports that when the campaign was started, founder Brian Kolfage promised all donations would be used to pay for a border wall between the USA and Mexico once the $1 billion goal was reached.

"There was a change in the use of funds", Whithorne said.

Kolfage said he launched his effort after reading a New York Post article that questioned why nobody had taken up the mantle to help pay for President Trump's proposed border barrier. Kolfage says his group is identifying areas that are frequently crossed; looking into wall solutions based on terrain, environment and other issues; and asking landowners if they would provide free or low-priced easements for its construction. (Mario Tama/Getty Images)"Our highly experienced team is highly confident that we can complete significant segments of the wall in less time, and for far less money, than the federal government, while meeting or exceeding all required regulatory, engineering, and environmental specifications", said the GoFundMe.

However, the more than 339,000 contributors now have the option to either receive a refund or to forward their donation. I am honoring that commitment today. He lists several controversial conservative figures as members of the organization, including former Kansas gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach and Sheriff David Clarke.

"Unanimously", Kolfage wrote, "we have all come to the conclusion that the federal government wont be able to accept our donations anytime soon".

The GoFundMe page now contains a link to opt-in to the new project and supporters have received an email.
