Meghan Markle is finding 2019 to be quite "stressful" already.

Meghan Markle is "miserable" and "stressed" in her new role as the Duchess of Sussex, US reports have claimed.

As well as the Smart Works, the duchess will also become patron of the National Theatre, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the first and oldest worldwide university network, and animal welfare charity Mayhew.

Meghan has previously spoken in support of championing the arts, and has expressed she wishes to use her position to make a difference to the arts sector.

Tackling maternity style with aplomb, Markle wore a sleek ensemble of Victoria Beckham's Vanity Box bag (Beckham's brand is a favorite of the duchess), monochrome Giovanni Rossi pumps, a tan Oscar de la Renta coat, and a black dress from maternity brand Hatch.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child together in spring.

Meghan has accepted patronages in the areas of education, the arts, animal welfare and supporting the vulnerable and disadvantaged - a major milestone for the senior royal.

Kensington Palace revealed that Meghan has secretly visited Smart Works several times over the previous year, as well as the other three organisations, and has got to know the people involved well during that time.

She told the group, which included two former clients: "I'm so happy to be here".

The National Theatre's post confirmed speculation Meghan would be taking over from Queen Elizabeth, who has been a long time patron of the organisation.

The source also revealed that Meghan is "anxious to learn about royal protocol and takes her new duties very seriously". "I very much look forward to working closely with Her Royal Highness in the years to come".

As for her other two official new royal patron roles, it looks like they're uniquely suited to Markle's causes, as the Palace puts it.
