In what may soon turn into a landmark event, astronauts aboard NASA International Space Station will conduct the first all-female spacewalk on March 29. They are going to make history and Kristen Facciol even made the following statement on her official Twitter account: "I can not contain my excitement!".
Two women are set to make history by conducting the first ever all-female spacewalk - and it's just in time for Women's History Month.
The spacewalk will be the second of three planned spacewalks during Expedition 59 to upgrade batteries on the International Space Station, which were delivered on the Japanese HII-Transfer Vehicle last summer, according to NASA.
McClain is now aboard the ISS as a member of the Expedition 58 crew, which arrived back in December.
Koch and McClain are no strangers to each other.
The new crew members will dock to the Rassvet module at 9:07 p.m. Expedition 59 will begin officially at the time of docking.
Schierholz also outlined the fact that the controls too would be manned by women. Jackie Kagey will serve as the lead EVA flight controller, while lead flight director Mary Lawrence and Kristen Facciol will provide support on the ground. One of the mission's flight controllers took to Twitter to express her excitement.

Both Koch and McClain were selected as members of NASA's 21st astronaut class in 2013, and finished training in 2015.
