Such a criticism could not be leveled at Tesla's now-closed store in Washington, DC, located in the city's newest and poshest downtown retail location; perhaps this store was one that suffered from "low apparent demand generation". Instead, the company said in a statement, many of its best performing locations will stick around.
Tesla has pulled a U-turn on plans to close nearly all of its dealerships while announcing price rises for its more expensive cars.
At the end of previous year, the company had almost 400 showrooms across the country, but has closed about 10 percent of those with the worst performance. Now, Tesla said, a few from the already-closed group in high-visibility spots will even be reopened.
Tesla is set to marginally increaser the cost of its cars worldwide as it looks to keep more of its stores open. All the rest appear safe, for now.
Potential Tesla auto buyers will have a week to place orders before prices rise for the Model S and X, the company said Monday. The auto firm is backtracking on its plans to close most of its stores worldwide after a period of evaluation.

The tweets initiated an investigation into whether Musk sent the tweets to inflate Tesla's stock price.
"How else can you view it except to see it as a remarkable example of lack of foresight or planning?". While this is normal in the auto industry, a close comparison of Tesla's 2019 sales figures shows steeper declines for the company compared to other vendors. The company will evaluate the performance of approximately 20% store locations over the next few months before determining if they should remain open or close.
Separately, Bloomberg reported on Monday that Tesla is in discussions with Chinese battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd on a deal for the production of rechargeable batteries for the Model 3. As a result of that decision, the company says it will have to increases prices on most of its models.
"Shifting all sales online, combined with other ongoing cost efficiencies, will enable us to lower all vehicle prices by about 6% on average, allowing us to achieve the $35,000 Model 3 price point earlier than we expected", the company said.
However, the long-promised $US35,000 Model 3 will not be impacted by the increase. The email to employees was also followed by a public-facing blog post.
