The Youth Climate Strike will take place in more than 130 cities in the USA, and in 90 countries.
The Swedish teen is the founder of the Youth Strike for Climate movement that began with her cutting school in August 2018 in order to protest for increased action on climate change.
Voting will take place in October, with the winners chosen through a majority vote. She says she hopes to see sustained regional action by students to maintain pressure on the Government to seriously address the issue.

At the Sydney event, City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore spoke to the crowd and said she supported the strikers, as a politician and as a former teacher.
A spokeswoman from Otumoetai College said the school was not going to stop the students going to the strike, but they needed to bring a note from their parents acknowledging their absence.

The global movement began after 16-year-old Swedish student Greta Thunberg made a decision to skip school every Friday to protest outside the Swedish Parliament for more effective measures against climate change.
The strike's platform calls for 100 percent renewable energy by 2030; halting all fossil fuel infrastructure projects; basing government policy on scientific research; requiring environmental education in schools; banning fracking and mountaintop mining; and changing the agricultural industry, among other measures.
