What was once a carefree decision on a Caribbean vacation - a trip to the Dominican Republic - has become something of a nightmare for Americans contemplating a trip to the island. Robert Bell Wallace, 67, of California was staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana when he had a scotch from the minibar in his room. They were there to attend his stepson's wedding. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Tickenoff Wallace, according to his obituary. The spot is known for its beaches and lavish resorts. Arnold also reiterates that her uncle, an avid traveler, had been in good health before his sudden death. Wallace loved to ski, according to his obituary, and he had opened a sports shop specializing in ski equipment.

For a man who spent much of his life building Turlock apartments and condominiums through his business, Wallace Construction, the family Wallace built is intent on finding the truth. Law enforcement said the couple died of the same illness that led to Wallace's and Schaup-Werner's deaths.

'He and his wife arrived there at around midnight on April 10. On April 11 he had scotch from the minibar.

Wallace's condition worsened and he was hospitalized April 13 after being checked by a hotel doctor, Arnold said.

Wallace is the fourth American to die while visiting the Dominican Republic since the end of April.

Arnold said that authorities have not yet given the family a cause of death. "To this day, which is nearly a year now, we've got nothing", Nieves said. 'We don't want this to happen to anyone else'.

'We offer our sincerest condolences to the family for their loss.

'Out of respect for the family during this hard time, we do not have additional information to provide'.

The three deaths at Grand Bahia Principe Hotel La Romana are being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Nathaniel Holmes and Cynthia Day, in a file photo, were found dead in their room at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana on May 30, 2019. Authorities originally described the deaths as taking place in the same hotel.

"My husband was a very fit, very healthy person when he passed away", she told Inside Edition. Her obituary simply states she died suddenly on June 23, 2018 while in the Dominican Republic.

Levine said she and a friend were planning to stay at one of the resorts where Americans died.

Maryland woman Dawn McCoy reported that her husband, David Harrison, died in similar circumstances almost a year ago at the same Hard Rock Cafe Wallace, according to Fox News. His death was later ruled a result of pulmonary edema.

Meanwhile, a DE woman named Tammy Lawrence-Daley said she was attacked in the Dominican Republic at another all-inclusive resort while she was vacationing with her husband and some friends. He said the investigation was complicated by the woman's inability to identify the attacker from a lineup of all employees on duty at the time.

"I started seeing all these other people that were dying of the same exact causes, which made me start to second guess", McCoy told WTOP-TV. The events, which have been widely reported, prompted government officials in the Dominican Republic as well as US ambassadors to reassure travelers that the country is still safe. So far, authorities have said that the deaths are unrelated. This story was reported from Oakland, Calif.
