Unusual York Metropolis Police Division Commissioner James O'Neill mentioned they are working with the Federal Aviation Administration and Nationwide Transportation Safety Board to determine what introduced about the helicopter, an Agusta A109E, to rupture.

Cuomo said it's not yet clear what caused the helicopter to crash-land on the building.

The New York City Fire Department confirmed one fatality.

According to Mayor Bill de Blasio, there is no helicopter landing pad on the roof of the AXA Equitable tower at 787 Seventh Avenue where the aircraft crashed. Almost a month ago, a chopper crashed into the Hudson River in New York City shortly after taking off from Manhattan, injuring two people.

Law enforcement officials identified the deceased pilot as Tim McCormack. "I mean, some serious 9/11 vibes", he said, referring to the 2001 terror attacks in which hijackers flew planes into the city's World Trade Center Towers.

American Continental Properties Inc, the company the helicopter is registered to, remembered McCormack - whose father and grandfather were firefighters in Poughkeepsie - in a statement to ABC News. Cuomo's office said the president and governor had spoken. According to reports, people on the third floor of the building felt the impact, with some saying it felt "like an quake". "We arrived on the scene within five minutes, and most of the fire was extinguished within a half hour". "It felt like you were just standing there, and someone takes their hand and just shoves you", he said. After the accident, a fire broke out, the fire Department, however, quickly was able to delete.

The 752-foot building in Seventh Avenue was evacuated as a precaution, following the incident.

The building is close to Times Square, the world-famous commercial and entertainment district, and some other tourist spots such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Broadway theater district.

The building at that location was purchased by the California Public Employees' Retirement System for $1.9 billion in January 2016 with partner CommonWealth Partners of Los Angeles.

Almost five years ago, in October 2014, McCormack was flying a different helicopter over the Hudson River with six tourists on board when a bird struck and broke part of the windshield, according to CNN affiliate WABC.
